The image above depicts the Altar of Augustan Peace, meant to commemorate the return of Augustus from Gaul and Hispania after conquering the two areas. The Altar emphasizes the authority of Augustus, who supposedly controlled "time itself" (formerly represented by a giant sundial). Portraiture is utilized both for political and religious purposes, some figures representing peace, and others representing family ideals embraced by Augustus. For instance, the panel Allegory of Peace portrays an image of peace, with Mother Earth nurturing babies meant to represent the Roman people, as they are surrounded by flowers and foliage.

The image shown above is the Altar of Augustan Peace, which was meant to commerate military victories of Augustus in Gaul and Hispania. The structure has both a political and reiligous purpose. Known as the Allegory of peace it has Mother Earth nurturing the Roman people represented by the two chubby babies. On either side of her, she has two young women with veils seated on the backs of two creatures. The theme of the Allegory of Peace would be peaceful but at the same time it reminded the contemporaries of Rome of who was in charge.

The building shown in the posted picture is what is known as the Altar of Augustan Peace. It was built as a symbol of Augustus' power and displays how peacful Rome was under his reign. The Altar has beautiful leaves and relifs, which shows the elegant and refined style that Augustus developed. The building has a political purpose, as well as tells a story. The political being that Augustus had the great authority to command such an altar to be built, but the lush plants and Mother Nature could symbolize a story of the fertility and prosperity of the Romans under the rule of Augustus.

This architectural work is known as the Altar of Augustan Peace. This marble peace which was made around 13-9 BCE and was originally located in the Plain of Mars. This work symbolizes the honor that Augustus gained after returning triumphant from his military workings in Gaul(France) and Hispania(Spain). On the sides on the altar there are high relief sculptures, much like the Altar of Pergamon. These sculptures are said to be a good medium between religion and politics because there are depictions of his honorable tasks and also natural and spiritual elements. In all, the altar is made to honor Augustus and the way his achievements brought peace to the Roman Empire through a mixture of religious and political influence.

The posted picture is known as the Altar of Augustan Peace. This altar was built to commemorate Augustus' military victories in both Gaul and Hispania. It is often known as the Allegory of Peace with Mother Nature being encircled by plants and nurturing the Roman people represented through two people. It is also political because it shows that Augustus is in power and politically superior to other countries such as Gaul and Hispania.

The image shown is the Ara Pacis Augustae (Altar of Augustan Peace). It honors Augustus' return to Rome after establishing Roman rule in Gaul and Hispania. The monument was begun in 13 bce, when Augustus was 50 years old, and dedicated in 13 bce, on Livia's 50th birthday. At the time of Augustus' conception, the shadow of the obelisk pointed to the open door of the altar's enclosure wall, on which sculptured panels depicted the first rulers of Rome (the warrior-king Romulus and Numa Pompilius). Therefore, the Ara Pacis celebrates Augustus as both a warrior and a peacemaker. Unlike the Greek sculptors who created an ideal procession for the Parthenon frieze, the Roman sculptors of the Ara Pacis depicted actual individuals participating in a specific event at a known time.

The image shown above is the Altar of Augustan Peace. This building was meant to celebrate Augustus’s military victories in the foreign arenas. However this building was also meant to communicate something to the people who saw it. It was to demonstrate to the people how successful and peaceful Augustus’s reign had been. The images of nature and peace further enforce the sentiment that Augustus had not only been a great ruler but was only doing the will of the gods.

This image shows the Alter of Augustan Peace. This alter was dedicated to the military triumphs made by Augustus. The decoration on the walls surrounding the alter were carefully planned out. They represented the unions between portraiture and allegory, religion and politics, and private and public. An example of the decorations on the walls is the Imperial Procession.

This is a picture of the Altar of Augustan Peace which celebrates the return of Augustus to Rome after successfully establishing Roman authority in Gaul and Hispania, and thus greatly expanding the Roman Empire. The decoration of this alter represents a great union of various aspects of Roman society, such as religion and politics, realism and symbolism, as well as private and public life. The interior depicts ox skulls (symbol of sacrifice) holding garlands of flowers from all the seasons, signifying continuous peace. The outside portrays various processions or scenes of humans, ranging from processions of the government officials to processions of the imperial family (many of those pictured are accurate and recognizable depictions of those individuals). Such imagery demonstrates that Augustus places importance not just in the political and public world, but also in his domestic life. Other scenes, however, of are more spiritual a nature, such as the Allegory of Peace, depicting Mother Earth who by her nurtures the Roman people (represented by two chubby babies) by providing them with rich farm land and fine weather. Beside her are two young women; one with a flying swan (the land wind) the other with a sea monster (the sea wind). These two images suggest Roman domination in the Mediterranean and the fertility of Roman farms. Thus, the Alter of Augustan Peace serves to commemorate Augustus’s victory in war, as well as the peace and wealth of the Roman people.

The image posted on the blog is the Ara Pacis Augustae, a.k.a. the Altar of Augustan Peace. Created in 13BCE, the piece was brought into existence for political purpose. The altar is commemorating Augustus's triumphal return to Rome after establishing Roman rule in Gaul and Hispania. Within the piece, there are various allegories. For example, on the inner walls, garlands of flowers are suspended in swags, or loops from ox skulls. The ox skulls symbolize sacrificial offerings and the garlands signify continuous peace.

The structure depicted in the above image is the Altar of Augustan Peace. As the name clearly implies, this structure was meant to signify the era of peace and prosperity that occurred during Augustus' rule. Deities and religious figures are depicted on the Altar of Peace, creating an shroud of awe and wonder around the figure of Augustus. The goddess of Earth, fertility, and natural images are each recurring themes featured on this Altar. Politically, the Altar of Augustan Peace commemorated the first emperor's efforts to encourage stability and trade. It also served to portray him as a godlike figure who singlehandedly brought Rome from the brink of disaster into a new era of peace, the Pax Romana.
